Rip Off (1971)

One of my personal favourites. For me it marked the first time I saw something on screen (or TV to be exact) that looked like the life I knew growing up in suburban Canada. I even went to a commune at the same age! Four Toronto teens stumble through sex, girls, rock 'n roll, growing up and being friends. Some great location shots. Thanks Don Shebib for making me realize we could tell our own st...

FOR VERSION WITH AUDIO SEND AN EMAIL TO petewheelerdrummond@gmail.com Set in a small Wisconsin town (even though it was actually filmed in Canada), this is the story of a young man living in the 60s. Despite some good performances, notably by Alex Nicol, the remainder of the movie is somewhat hackneyed and cliched...standar...

PET (and his three sons) were all on my Air Canada flight from Toronto to Vancouver in 1990..Pierre in first class, Justin & his bros. sat 2 rows behind me in coach. After landing, I spotted PET literally standing with only 1 person, no security, at baggage claim. I gathered my nerve, and walked up & requested an autograph for my mom. He couldn't have been nicer and quiet spoken. And much shorter than I would have thot. An amazing experience and a truly amazing man. rip Monsieur PM.

Thanks for uploading this. I wish we could message youtubers, so I am using this as an alternative. I remember as a child watching a movie set in Heritage Park in Calgary. It was a strange film in which I THINK a woman stays in the village and starts to see ghosts, people from the past. I half remember it, but it is salient because I had went on a trip to Heritage Park not long before seeing the film. I suspect it was made for TV probably the CBC. I thought you might know it (or one of your viewers).

This, for me, turned out to be an enjoyable movie. Judging by the amount of space visible above actors heads however, it is obvious that it should not be presented in the old 4:3 ratio but, instead, cropped to current wide-screen proportions.

This is such a great movie. It reminds me of old school Toronto, a Toronto that is long time gone. Born in 66 and this was from 69/70 which was a time my folks would take me downtown to Eaton’s and City Hall. It’s like a world long gone. I love the voice over here and how it teaches us so much about the movie and Toronto back in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Cheers Ps. It’s not A & A Records. It’s Sam the Record Man. A&A was next store and different inside compared to Sam’s.

This film was shown a lot on TV in eastern Canada in the 70s and 80s, but my wife, who grew up in Vancouver, had never heard of it. Paul Bradley, who played Joey, later lived in Victoria BC. where I spotted him selling knife sharpeners at a swap meet. When he was finished his spiel, he asked me how many I wanted. I told him I'd buy one if he autographed it for me. He smiled, and reached out to shake my hand.

I was fortunate to see a live performance by Craig so many years ago. Unfortunately, at 79 years old, I don't remember where or when. Unlike so many other drag shows in the 1960-1970's, (Charles Pierce @ the Gilded Cage or Big Jimmy @ The Black Cat in San Francisco, or Sofanda Peters in Kansas City who all lip synced), Craig did his own singing. What an amazing talent they all had!
